If you follow my blogging you know I am a believer in the power of video. It’s one of the most powerful tools available for marketing a business today. Take a look at Youtube for example. YouTube is the world’s second largest search engine and third most visited site after Google and Facebook. I would say that never before has it been this easy for a business to create and distribute their own content. Not only that it can happen almost instantly. For example Live Streaming is quickly becoming one of the biggest things in marketing.
Oc course there is much more to it than just switching on the camera and pressing go live. You need to understand your audience or customer base and create good content that is timely and relevant to them. You also need a great product but lets leave that for another conversation.
For now we will also assume you have established an Instagram account and have a good following. You also have a solid Facebook page and have a connected and engaged community. Or at least a good start. If you are generating good content these will grow and evolve with you. Your rock solid social media strategy may also include a blog with interesting content and perhaps a twitter account with a good following. These all will work together to build a community around your product. In this case you are the product. A solid real estate team that can get the job done. Now lets talk about those video again. while doing some research I ran across this blog on these essential marketing videos and I would say it pretty much is spot on. Here is the high level list. I’ll let you click through and see the specifics on each point. My opinion is that we could tweak on these and change some of the specifics but its pretty close.

Here is a sample of one of the type of listing videos we do. This video was produced for Rain City NW & Keller Williams.
Over the past few months I have enjoyed learning about the real estate business as I have worked with my client Rain City NW creating video content to help market his business and sell homes for his customers. One thing that stands out is the amount of work that goes into listing and selling a home. I did not realize how much goes into this process. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes and it’s clearly a team effort. There are so many little details that need to be taken care of in order for the home to sell in a timely manner and for it to go for the price it deserves. You want to put your best foot forward so to speak.
I remember when I was young and my parents where selling their home the amount of extra effort my parents seemed to put into an open house. Specifically I remember my day putting on a DVD in the family room called Over Washington. He turned the sound all the way down but he was just looking for the visuals of the beauty of our area. We lived just south of Seattle at the time. The DVD was an amazingly done documentary of the scenery of Washington State. The cinematography was beautiful. I also remember that he would either have mom bake bread of cookies just before the open house. I remember the feeling it gave you as you walked into the house and interest the TV room.
Small details but it seemed to make a big difference when it came to how it made you feel in the house. Just this year when filming a video for Rain City NW I discovered they would bake cookies for the event. Sure they could have just swung by the store and grabbed some cookies but you would miss out on that home baked smell.
As in most things we do its the little things that make the big deference in the end. Sweat the small stuff. Go the extra mile.

I just ran across this great series of blog entries from my friends at Intrepid Learning by Sam Herring on LinkedIn. Besides being a local company here in Seattle I’ve always respected the great work they do. I was first introduced to their work while I was at T-Mobile. I also respect their accessibility locally and involvement in ATD. Sam Herring who is CEO at Intrepid served on the ATD board of directors for 4 years and made big contributions to the learning community. Here is an interview I did with Sam for the ATD Puget Sound 2012 Workplace Learning Conference.
