New York Trip – Multi-Media workshop

Screen Shot 2017-09-01 at 8.55.44 PMI ran across this video I produced with my students of the ASTD Multi-media workshop. That was a really fun trip! I really enjoyed the people and sights of New York. I need to get back again soon.

The workshop focused on creating rapid video and audio without spending a ton gear. Desktop video and audio production.

Road trip to La Push Washington on the Olympic Peninsula

I thought I would share some sensory from my trip to the Olympic Peninsula. It was in June to celebrate my oldest sons Bryce’s Birthday. We started by talking the Edmonds Kingston Ferry

over to the Olympic Peninsula. Once across we would take State Highway 307 turning on 104 north. We followed 104 north till we hit Interstate 101. Follow 101 around the top of the Peninsula to the Pacific Ocean.

I love this drive. Here is a music video I created out of the GoPro footage on the Jeep. It was really my Teardrop campers first real outing. I am very please on how it has trended out. Few more tweaks and I think I will have it setup they way I want.

We camped in a camp ground out side of Forks Wa Called More Campground. Great place to stay but can be sold out in the Summer. You may now that is vampire country. Its the setting for the Twilight series. If you are a fan this place is a must.

If you do make it over to the further most tip of Washington state there are some fantastic beaches, parks and viewpoint. I recommend taking a several days and driving around the loop. You have to see the rain forest. For sure explore the Olympic National Park.  I love this resource by the National Parks Conservation Association.

La Push - Cave island

We defiantly found lots cool places to hang out and explore. La Push beach is one of my favorite beaches in the Pacific. We spent some time there. I love photography and there was lots of birds including one of my favorite to photograph is the Bald Eagle. I was able to get nice on close to one for some great photos.

American Bald Eagle

It was a great place to watch birds, boats and people. Lots of sand to play on. We watched the Coast Gard guys towing in a fishing vessel it seemed to almost get away from them at one point.

In-between the camp ground and La Push we found a great little place on the river to kayak, cool down in the water and have lunch.

I would have liked to have spent more time on the Peninsula but it was just a weekend get-a-way. We’ll have to get back out there soon.

Happy travels!

Lyrics of the week – Paradise

John_Denver_-_RockyMountainHigh

“Paradise”
Written by John Prine
When I was a child, my family would travel
down to western Kentucky where my parents were born.
There’s a backwards old town that’s often remembered, so my times that my memories are worn.
And daddy, won’t you take me back to Muhlenberg County,
down by the Green River where paradise lay?
Well, I’m sorry, my son, but you’re too late in asking.
Mister Peabody’s coal train just hauled it away.Well sometimes we’d travel right down the Green River
to the abandoned old prison down by Adrie Hill,
where the air smelled like snakes and we’d shoot with our pistols,
but empty pop bottles was all we would kill.
And daddy, won’t you take me back to Muhlenberg County,
down by the Green River where paradise lay?
Well, I’m sorry, my son, but you’re too late in asking.
Mister Peabody’s coal train just hauled it away.Well, the coal company came with the world’s largest shovel,
and they tortured the timber and stripped all the land.
And they dug for their coal till the land was forsaken, wrote it all down as the progress of man.
And daddy, won’t you take me back to Muhlenberg County,
down by the Green River where paradise lay?
Well, I’m sorry, my son, but you’re too late in asking.
Mister Peabody’s coal train just hauled it away.
And daddy, won’t you take me back to Muhlenberg County,
down by the Green River where paradise lay?
Well, I’m sorry, my son, but you’re too late in asking.
Mister Peabody’s coal train just hauled it away.

Lyrics of the Week – True Colors

true-colors-680x452Cyndi Lauper

“True Colors”

You with the sad eyes
Don’t be discouraged
Oh I realize
It’s hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small

But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow

Show me a smile then,
Don’t be unhappy, can’t remember
When I last saw you laughing

If this world makes you crazy
And you’ve taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know I’ll be there

And I’ll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow

[Whisper:] Can’t remember, when I last saw you laugh.

If this world makes you crazy
And you’ve taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know I’ll be there

And I’ll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors
True colors are shining through

I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow.

The Cat made me buy it – Mojocat

IMG_4157.JPGI am often asked what the origin of the name Mojocat is. The truth is it’s multifaceted so I often give an abridged version. Back in hight school I studied Radio broadcasting at the Yakima Valley Vocational Skills Center. Evan though being a DJ was the most sexy part of radio I was fascinated with the advertising part of radio. I think one reason was that I seemed to have a knack for creating the commercials especially voicing them. I enjoyed doing character voices. Most days during class when I was not on the air you would find me in the control room voicing promos or just goofing off playing with the tape recorder.  I gained a fascination for the storytelling aspect of advertising. I was always researching and learning about advertising approaches or the story behind the creative. My carrier as a radio star was short lived but I did spend a great deal of time in the advertising world including selling radio advertising for on of Seattles last top 40 station.

My career as some point took some turns and I ended up becoming a graphic artist working on print advertising as well as online. I enjoyed learning about branding and using characters to sell products. One time as I was browsing thrift shops I ran across this book titled The Cat Made Me Buy It. I purchased it because it fascinated me that there where so many incidences where cats where used for branding. There are many philosophies as to why cats where good for branding. Cats are strong yet they have a soft side as well. They are dark and mysterious yet the are also loving and playful. The one that I identify with these days as my brand has survived so many evolutions if of course cats have nine lives. This fits Mojocat to a T. mojocat is a survivor. We survived the dot com startup boom and bust. I have the scars to prove it.

add- 90s.pngIn parallel when we where looking for a name for our web design business in the 90’s the name Mojocat just kind of came from nowhere. Ok there was more than likely a few microbrews involved in the multiple creative sessions that produced the name. Some of the details are a bit foggy but it goes a little something like this. Mojo is magic. You see the guys who started the original Mojocat with me all shared a love for music. Not the Austin powers mojo but the mojo that comes from Muddy Waters, Jim Morrison and the Beatles. As designers and developers we like to think that we could work magic. Now what about the cats. We where the cats. The Mojocats. Then lets look at that again. CAT what did we do? The cats that is. Well to go a bit further. We created the acronym CAT Creative Approaches to Technology.  Well there you go Mojocat!

That’s the story, the legend if you will. Now stand back and let us work our magic!

Essential Marketing Videos for Real Estate

20233035_1259952067464596_1346277392457719514_oIf you follow my blogging you know I am a believer in the power of video. It’s one of the most powerful tools available for marketing a business today. Take a look at Youtube for example. YouTube is the world’s second largest search engine and third most visited site after Google and Facebook. I would say that never before has it been this easy for a business to create and distribute their own content. Not only that it can happen almost instantly. For example Live Streaming is quickly becoming one of the biggest things in marketing.

Oc course there is much more to it than just switching on the camera and pressing go live. You need to understand your audience or customer base and create good content that is timely and relevant to them. You also need a great product but lets leave that for another conversation.

For now we will also assume you have established an Instagram account and have a good following. You also have a solid Facebook page and have a connected and engaged community. Or at least a good start. If you are generating good content these will grow and evolve with you. Your rock solid social media strategy may also include a blog with interesting content and perhaps a twitter account with a good following. These all will work together to build a community around your product. In this case you are the product. A solid real estate team that can get the job done.  Now lets talk about those video again. 10 Best-Kept Secrets for Selling Your Home – Via HGTV

12354012_m-5b68bc
Over the past few months I have enjoyed learning about the real estate business as I have worked with my client Rain City NW creating video content to help market his business and sell homes for his customers. One thing that stands out is the amount of work that goes into listing and selling a home. I did not realize how much goes into this process. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes and it’s clearly a team effort. There are so many little details that need to be taken care of in order for the home to sell in a timely manner and for it to go for the price it deserves. You want to put your best foot forward so to speak.

I remember when I was young and my parents where selling their home the amount of extra effort my parents seemed to put into an open house. Specifically I remember my day putting on a DVD in the family room called Over Washington. He turned the sound all the way down but he was just looking for the visuals of the beauty of our area. We lived just south of Seattle at the time. The DVD was an amazingly done documentary of the scenery of Washington State. The cinematography was beautiful. I also remember that he would either have mom bake bread of cookies just before the open house. I remember the feeling it gave you as you walked into the house and interest the TV room.

20232085_1259952554131214_7103083859931642694_o

Small details but it seemed to make a big difference when it came to how it made you feel in the house. Just this year when filming a video for Rain City NW I discovered they would bake cookies for the event. Sure they could have just swung by the store and grabbed some cookies but you would miss out on that home baked smell.

As in most things we do its the little things that make the big deference in the end. Sweat the small stuff. Go the extra mile.

Screen Shot 2017-08-23 at 4.55.10 PMfocusing on my instructional design career. The domain www.mojocat.com will be focused on my business Mojocat Creative Services. The new Mojocat site is draft one of a site build on WordPress. I have plans on taking this site to the next level but for now I am hoping this simple site will do. I think it does a pretty good job of explaining who Mojocat is and what we do. As acompanion to the domain Mojocat I will leverage the Facebook page www.facebook.com/mojocatcs/

Have I confused anyone yet? I hope not.

Lyrics of the week – Foo Fighters-All My Life

5748BC41614D6B9A67C04095DAF41EFD

All my life I’ve been searching for somethin’
Somethin’ never comes, never leads to nothin’
Nothin’ satisfies, but I’m getting close
Closer to the prize at the end of the rope

All night long I dream of the day,
When it comes around, and it’s taken away
Leaves me with the feelin’ that I feel the most
I feel it come to life when I see your ghost

Come down don’t you resist
You have such a delicate wrist
And if I give it a twist
Something to hold when I lose my grip
Will I find something in that
So give me just what I need
Another reason to bleed
One by one hidden up my sleeve, one by one hidden up my sleeve

Hey, don’t let it go to waste
I love it but I hate that taste
Weight keeping me down

Hey, don’t let it go to waste
I love it but I hate that taste
Weight keeping me down

Will I find the believer?
Another one who believes
Another one to deceive
Over and over down on my knees

If I get any closer
And if you open up wide
And if you let me inside
On and on I got nothing to hide, on and on I got nothing to hide

Hey, don’t let it go to waste
I love it but I hate that taste
Weight keeping me down

Hey, don’t let it go to waste
I love it but I hate that taste
Weight keeping me down

All my life I’ve been searching for somethin’
Somethin’ never comes, never leads to nothin’
Nothin’ satisfies, but I’m getting close
Closer to the prize at the end of the rope
All night long I dream of the day
When it comes around and it’s taken away
Leaves me with the feelin’ that I feel the most
Feel it come to life when I see your ghost

And I’m done, done onto the next one
Done, done and I’m onto the next one
Done, done and I’m onto the next one
Done, done and I’m onto the next one
Done, done and I’m onto the next one
Done, done and I’m onto the next one
Done, done and I’m onto the next one
Done, I’m done and I’m onto the next

Sing it Dave!

Done, done onto the next one!
Done, I’m done and I’m on to the next one!
Done, done onto the next one!
Done, I’m done and I’m on to the next one!

Hey, don’t let it go to waste
I love it but I hate that taste
Weight keeping me down

Hey, don’t let it go to waste
I love it but I hate that taste
Weight keeping me down

Done, done onto the next one!
Done, I’m done and I’m on to the next one!
